The findings obtained in FI-PPP Phase 1 underscore the need for new types of ICT solutions that enable radical improvements in collaboration in corporate networks. The key sectors where such solutions are in demand are the agri-food, transport and logistics industries: multiple actors (including companies, government agencies, service providers) need to share information and communicate across organizational boundaries to conduct business. Based on the results of two complementary Phase 1 projects (FInest & SmartAgriFood), the goal of FIspace is to bring about fundamental changes in the way collaborative business networks will operate in the future. FIspace will develop a Multi-Domain Business Collaboration Space (FIspace for short) that leverages FI technologies to enable seamless collaboration in open, cross-organizational business networks, establish eight working experimental sites in Europe to test pilot applications in early trials for the agri-food, transport and logistics sectors, and prepare for industrial adoption by engaging with stakeholders and associations from relevant industry sectors and the IT industry. FIspace will make extensive use of the GEs and Development Kit of the FI-PPP Core Platform, validating its capabilities, openness and versatility for the realization of future B2B collaboration solutions. FIspace will be open; other FI-PPP projects and external users and solution providers can easily use, test and exploit it. It supports a future business model where external solution providers, especially SMEs, can bring additional, novel and disruptive solutions to the FIspace ecosystem. In doing so, FIspace is preparing to establish a future standard for cross-organizational business collaboration to address pressing industry challenges, leverage FI technologies developed in FI-PPP, and lay the foundation for industrial adoption and innovation support planned for FI-PPP Phase 3.
