ATB Bremen Marks 35 Years of Applied Research and Industrial Innovation
In 2026, ATB Bremen marks 35 years of applied research, software development, and technology transfer.
ATB was founded in 1991 by the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and industrial partners from the Bremen region. Since then, the institute has supported companies and research organisations in the development and application of advanced information and communication technologies.
ATB’s work combines application-oriented research with the implementation of software-based solutions for industrial environments. Its main areas of expertise include software architectures and software engineering, knowledge management, systems analysis and the management of complex research and innovation projects.
Over the past three and a half decades, ATB has participated in numerous regional, national, and European research projects. The institute has worked with partners from manufacturing, automotive engineering, logistics, agriculture, healthcare, robotics and other sectors.
A consistent feature of ATB’s work is close cooperation with industrial partners. Research questions are addressed in relation to concrete operational needs, with the objective of transferring methods and prototypes into usable technical solutions.
ATB will continue to focus on trustworthy artificial intelligence, human-centred industrial systems, interoperable digital infrastructures, sustainable product lifecycles, and advanced software engineering.
